I have had the pleasure of visiting a number of college events and the message I get is of an area under considerable pressure from an internal management viewpoint. A system trying to manage irreconcilable demands for quality without the support to achieve it. At times I feel that students are being accepted onto courses because of funding needs rather than being able to benefit from the experience.
The encouraging thing is the amazing resilience of staff and there a clearly examples of good students on all of the courses. Some good work was in evidence which gives hope for the future.
However I emphasise the commitment to quality, unfortunately, is still in spite of the system rather than because of it.
For the time being I will just illustrate the work of Southport. There were examples of very young students producing images of maturity. I will do a full survey at the end of the month.
SOUTHPORT.
