Spent a day reviewing the students directions and where they could explore taking them in the future. Then we related this world view to who might share it and discussed ways of accessing them. Also looked at a case study and discussed the barriers to them engaging confidently with individuals and organisations. As ever issues relating to fear were uppermost and we had a chance to debunk a few of the myths.
The academic arts culture appears to lack the imagination to look at other models of degree delivery especially in the context of the commercial environment. There are issues of purity and reputation which command and control management models cling on to. These often have the demonstrable result of stultifying innovation. I feel the students deserve better.
