At times it is a challenge to keep up to date with the range of activities that keep me occupied.
Over the past couple of months I have been discussing the potential of opening a new London gallery with Dave Stewart.
I have also had an exchange of views on the development of college programmes with emphasis on the need for degrees to be focussed on challenging projects. This I feel which extend the students ambitions.Projects would need to be related to real world issues.The outcomes should then be critically reviewed. Experience over the past few months in this area have harden my views. A large number of the students appear to be drifting even in the final year, their work seems to have no anchor to reality This appears to be due to a lack of direction and understanding of the commercial context.
Additionally I have been following our ex-students’ successes, with so many awards achieved recently it is hard to isolate any individuals. So I won’t, suffice it to say I am so proud of them all.
The recent AOP newsletter has highlighted the achievements of Rob Evans, another of our ex students, who has been producing books and videos celebrating the work of outstanding Artisans. This interview has many practical suggestions on how to innovate. It is an excellent case study and well worth a read.
